Abstract

A bacterial strain, 5YN9-8, was isolated from a peat layer in Yongneup, Republic of Korea. It was strictly aerobic, Gram-negative, non-motile, short rod- or coccus-shaped and produced ivory-pigmented colonies. Results of 16S rRNA gene sequence analyses indicated a close relationship between this isolate and Ko04 (97.2 % similarity) and Chj404 (96.2 % similarity), members of the order within the . Predominant cellular fatty acids of strain 5YN9-8 were C 7, C, C 8 cyclo and C. The DNA G+C content was 67.0 mol%. Phylogenetic, phenotypic and chemotaxonomic data accumulated in this study revealed that the isolate represents a novel species of the genus , for which the name sp. nov. is proposed; strain 5YN9-8 (=KACC 12605 =DSM 19436) is the type strain.
