Abstract

In an attempt to study the composition of the flora from mucosa of human stomach, 16S rRNA gene sequences of 129 isolates were analysed. For 15 of these, the results differed significantly from known sequences, and additional tests were performed to determine whether these isolates represented as yet unrecognized species. Phenotypic and genetic characteristics revealed that these isolates represented four novel species. Two belong to the and the other two to the subgroup of . The names sp. nov., sp. nov., sp. nov. and sp. nov. are proposed, with the respective type strains Kx156A7 (=LMG 22113=DSM 16045=CCUG 48454), Kx146A4 (=LMG 22111=DSM 16041=CCUG 48456), Kx127A2 (=LMG 22115=DSM 16043=CCUG 48459) and Kx146C1 (=LMG 22117=DSM 16047=CCUG 48460).
