Abstract

A Gram-staining-positive, coccoid to rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain YC6903, was isolated from a halophytic plant ( Steud.) collected from sand dunes at Namhae Island, Korea, and its taxonomic position was investigated by using a polyphasic approach. Strain YC6903 grew optimally at 30 °C and at pH 8.0. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain YC6903 belongs to the genus in the family . Strain YC6903 was related most closely to OS4 (97.0 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity), FR1436 (96.6 %), GW-9 (96.6 %) and DS-30 (96.6 %). The cell-wall peptidoglycan contained -diaminopimelic acid and MK-8(H) was the major respiratory quinone. The mean (±) level of DNA–DNA relatedness between strain YC6903 and OS4 was 53.5±5.5 %. The predominant cellular fatty acid of strain YC6903 was iso-C (28.9 %). The DNA G+C content was 71.7 mol%. Phenotypic, phylogenetic and chemotaxonomic data indicated that strain YC6903 represents a novel species of the genus , for which the name sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is YC6903 (=KACC 13778 =DSM 22177).
