Abstract

ABSTRACT

The generic name Acetobacter Beijerinck is accepted for the nonmotile or peritrichously flagellated acetic acid bacteria and the generic name Gluconobacter Asai for the gluconic acid bacteria. The type species proposed for Gluconobacter is G. oxydans (Henne-berg 1897). DeLey 1961. It is proposed that a single species of Gluconobacter be recognized.
