Abstract

Summary: Exclusion specified by the IncI plasmid R144 was determined by measuring the amount of donor DNA transferred to appropriate recipient cells. When recipient cells harboured an R144-derived Exc recombinant plasmid, the exclusion value determined in that way was comparable with the exclusion value determined by measuring the efficiency of transconjugant colony formation. When recipient cells harboured the plasmid R144, the exclusion value determined by measuring the amount of donor DNA transferred to recipient cells appeared more valid than the value determined by measuring transconjugant colony formation.
