Abstract

SUMMARY

Subcutaneous injection of microgram quantities of purified SV40 DNA into newborn Syrian hamsters induced sarcomas. The tumour cells contained SV40 T-antigen and virus could be rescued from the cultured tumour cells. Addition of poly-L-ornithine or calf thymus DNA to the injection mixture did not enhance the tumour incidence. SV40 DNA cleaved with endonuclease EcoRI also displayed oncogenic potential.
