Abstract

SUMMARY: Ammonia, urea and glutamate are each used as sole nitrogen source by germinating conidia of . Ammonia is used preferentially when provided in the medium together with urea or glutamate. Germinated conidia actively transport glutamate against a concentration gradient. The suppression of glutamate utilization by ammonia is possibly mediated by an effect on the transport system for glutamate.
