The characteristics of a Gram-positive bacterium isolated from a chronic sore throat are described. It possessed a streptobacillary morphology and was capable of growing only upon a solid surface. Its physiology and chemical composition, and those of Gram-positive variants derived from it, suggest a relationship with both Streptococcus and Corynebacterium, especially the latter.
