Abstract

We have determined the complete nucleotide sequence of the homologues of the phosphate-specific transport () genes in the framework of the international genome sequencing project. The genes in form an operon arranged in the order and In the case of there are also five ORFs presumably forming an operon. The deduced amino acid sequences of the products of these ORFs show striking similarities to their counterparts. Comparison of the organization of the operon of with that of revealed that the gene corresponding to is missing, while there are two genes homologous to in The operon is located at 222° on the chromosome.
