Abstract

SUMMARY: Growth of NCIB8554 was inhibited by -threonine and -homoserine. Inhibition was relieved by -aspartate, -methionine or -isoleucine. Aspartokinase was inhibited by -threonine or -lysine and concertedly inhibited by the two together. -Methionine or -threonine. possesses one aspartokinase and a separate homoserine dehydrogenase. Neither enzyme is subject to repression by amino acids of the aspartate family.
