Abstract

SUMMARY: The rate of prototroph formation as a result of gene recombination in multiple mutants of , strain K-12, is altered by addition of various chemicals to the nutrient substrate in which the recombining strains are grown. There is some correlation between the appearance of filamentous forms of the organism and the rate of gene recombination.
