Abstract

SUMMARY: Numerical analysis of published standard descriptions of the eight species of 48 species of and the single species of failed to distinguish separate genera. It is proposed that they be combined as a single genus of 41 species, three of which were formerly allocated to the genus The genus of 20 species including and three former species of is closely related to the genus and is distinguished only by the ability of Hansenula species to assimilate nitrate. In the genus the number of species is reduced from four to two, and in from three to one.
