Critical point drying prevented collapse of the exosporium and a material connexion between spore and exosporium was observed in specimens prepared by this technique. A variety of electron-microscopic techniques showed that the exosporium possessed a relatively simple multilamellar structure, each lamella consisting of subunits arranged in paracrystalline array which in surface view displayed hexagonal symmetry. Possible model structures based on these findings are considered., UL https://www.microbiologyresearch.org/content/journal/micro/10.1099/00221287-73-2-325
