Hence this layer is composed of mucopolymer. This observation, and the previous reports that this layer is thickened in mature spores of a Cylindrospermum sp. and in vegetative cells of Oscillatoria princeps, suggest that mucopolymer determines wall strength and maintains cell shape.", }
