Growth and Pigmentation of Free

Abstract

SUMMARY: grew well between 25° and 40° with an optimum at 25° to 30°. At 35° pigmentation lagged behind growth after 3 days, growth and pigmentation showed similar maxima at 25°. The bacterium appeared to synthesize five carotenoids, at least two of which have the same chromophore and are keto-carotenoids.
