Abstract

SUMMARY: Bud formation in occurs by an extension of the entire parent cell wall, as described previously. The dividing walls between the bud and the parent cell are laid down simultaneously, but the bud septum is completed more rapidly. The dividing walls separate before the bud is mature. Finally, the bud is released by the breakdown of the outer wall. A comparison between bud formation in and reveals basic differences in the mechanisms which can be related to structures in mycelial fungi.
