No initial assumptions were made about the viability of the subpopulations at the time that the samples were taken. A general-purpose analogue computer was then used both in mathematical analysis and mathematical synthesis to investigate the growth characteristics of the survivors and non-survivors as functions both of time and of pretreatment., UL https://www.microbiologyresearch.org/content/journal/micro/10.1099/00221287-48-2-189
