Abstract

SUMMARY

The fine structure of the mature sporangium of Karling (Chytridiales, Phycomycetes) is described. Deductions are made about the dehiscence mechanism and the nature of the zoospore. A striking feature of the zoospore is a conspicuous fibrous body immediately adjacent to the refractive globule. This body possibly represents a primitive photoreceptor organelle.
