The organism is readily recognizable by its characteristic colonial appearances, fruity smell and greening of blood agar. It resembles to a considerable extent Alcaligenes faecalis, ‘Bacterium alcali-aromaticum’, and A. odorans; the name A. odorans var. viridans is proposed for the organism. It appears to be non-pathogenic, but may be confused with Pseudomonas aeruginosa.", }
