By means of a mouthpiece suction can be applied so that a sample of fluid is drawn over into the bottle, which is then replaced by a similar empty sterile bottle. By fitting an extension of the tube to pass to the bottom of the bottle, and by blowing instead of sucking, fluid in the bottle may be driven over into the fermentation vessel. The device may be used for certain other operations such as removing or transferring sterile solutions or suspensions. %U https://www.microbiologyresearch.org/content/journal/micro/10.1099/00221287-4-3-410
