The maximum production of these effects required the same minimum concentration, about 50 m-equiv. cation/l., of a comparably wide range of salts, as did maximum alteration of the chemotactic response of the zoospores to CO2. It is suggested that there may be a common mechanism by which salts sensitize both the zoospores and the growing stages to CO2.
