The pH value was controlled manually to about ± 0·01 unit (s.d.), by adjustments in the CO2 tension of the gas above the medium. The Eh was controlled by the addition of oxygen to a system with an inherent tendency to become reduced. With manual control the Eh was maintained within ± 2 mV (s.d.); automatic control gave better regulation than this. %U https://www.microbiologyresearch.org/content/journal/micro/10.1099/00221287-35-2-169
