Abstract

SUMMARY: Root hairs of clover seedlings infected by Rhizobium were studied in the electron microscope. The appearance of the infection sites supports the invagination hypothesis proposed by Nutman. The origin of the material enclosing the bacteria within the infection thread is discussed.
