SUMMARY: The growth rate and the time schedule of the mitotic cycle of the lepto-monads of Leishmania donovani, the Kala-azar parasite, were studied. The numbers of cells in the different division stages were estimated by photomicroscopy after Feulgen staining. The observed time intervals of resting, prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase and binucleate condition were 15.2, 1.1, 3.9, 1.1, 0.9 and 1.8 hr., respectively; the total generation time was 24 hr.
