This process is believed to be prerequisite for the formation of heterocystous filaments. The significance of anastomosis in the developmental cycle of Nostoc is discussed and a tentative scheme for an alternation of sporogenous and heterocystous generations is presented., UL https://www.microbiologyresearch.org/content/journal/micro/10.1099/00221287-28-2-203
