Abstract

Summary: Five rumen strains of all required biotin for good anaerobic production of dextran from sucrose in a simple acetate+bicarbonate + amino acids medium. Three of these strains required at least pantothenate also. When phosphate replaced acetate as a buffer, dextran production did not occur unless a soluble protein was also supplied in the medium.
