Minor differences were found between the physiological and biochemical characteristics of the two pathogens, while no differences were detected in pathogenicity, host range, cellular protein profiles, direct fluorescent straining, and dot-immunobinding assays. P. avenae and P. rubrilineans were distinctly different from other non-fluorescent pseudomonads. We were unable to differentiate P. avenae strains from those of P. rubrilineans, and we propose that they be regarded as a single species, retaining the name Pseudomonas avenae. ", }
