Electrophoresis on native and denaturing gels, and activity staining with DOPA revealed two immunologically distinguishable bands of Mr about 100000 and 120000, which could be separated by (NH4)2SO4 fractionation. The enzyme isolated from this yeast gave optimal activity at higher pH (8·5–10) and temperature (37–40 °C) than other known melanin-synthesizing activities.", }
