Abstract

The exclusion relationship between the IncI plasmids 144, 64 and ColIb was studied in such a way that incompatibility interference was avoided. Genetic crosses with an 144-derived Hfr donor, crosses with recipient strains carrying 144-derived exclusion genes on a recombinant plasmid compatible with 144, and measurement of transmission frequencies of a recombinant plasmid compatible with IncI plasmids after mobilization by 144 revealed that 144, 64 and ColIb belong to one exclusion group.
