A. %T Cell Cycle Initiation and Bud Emergence in Saccharomyces cerevisiae %D 1983 %J Microbiology, %V 129 %N 6 %P 1599-1605 %@ 1465-2080 %R https://doi.org/10.1099/00221287-129-6-1599 %I Microbiology Society, %X The coordination of growth with cell division in Saccharomyces cerevisiae has been examined by investigating the order and interactions of three early events in the cell cycle. ‘Start’, which is thought to be the central control point from which alternative developmental pathways diverge ( Hartwell, 1974 ). preceded bud emergence by about 15 min regardless of cell growth rate. Cells growing in rich media showed the greatest increase in volume between ‘start’ and bud emergence. A nutrient-modulated cell size control event ( Lorincz & Carter, 1979 ) was executed coincident with, or after, ‘start’.
