Abstract

The inducible diol-metabolizing oxidases from ethylene glycol-grown and propane 1,2-diol-grown sp. NCIB 11171 have been partially purified and shown to be the same broad substrate specificity enzyme. The inducible catalase from diol-grown strain NCIB 11171 has been partially purified and shown to act on the hydrogen peroxide product of the alcohol oxidase with the peroxide acting as the electron plus proton donor. The partially purified catalase was unable to oxidize various alcohols in the presence of hydrogen peroxide.
