Pleiotropic Properties of Mutations to Non-alkalophily in Free

Abstract

Non-alkalophilic mutant strains of exhibited a loss of Na/H antiport activity and Na-coupling of solute transport, and decreased contents of membrane-bound cytochromes and of a membrane-bound chromophore that absorbs light at 526 nm. Evidence that these changes could result from a single mutation is presented.
