An oligosporogenic strain of Bacillus cereus T was found to carry an inducible phage. CsCl-ethidium bromide gradients of lysates of this strain contained satellite DNA of the same density as the phage genome. Neither the phage nor the satellite DNA could be detected in the sporogenic parental strain. Purified phage preparations increased sporulation from 10-50-fold when added to cultures of the oligosporogenic strain.
