Abstract

SUMMARY:Cultures of multiplied more rapidly and a higher peak population was reached when glucose was added to the peptone medium. The rate of glucose consumption varied during the growth cycle; the maximum rate recorded was 90 g./10 organisms 24 hr. The breakdown of glucose resulted in the production of acetic, succinic, probably lactic, and an unidentified non-volatile acid.
