Abstract

Generalized transduction in by two virulent bacteriophages, RL38 and RL39, is described. The transduction frequency was increased by ultraviolet irradiation of phage lysates. Cotransduction of auxotrophic and antibiotic resistance markers was shown, as was transduction of two PI group R plasmids. Transduction between strains of and interspecific transduction from to occurred but no transduction from to was detected.
