This permitted the use of hydroxylamine as non-enzymic acyl acceptor in assaying pyruvate oxidation enzymes in crude extracts. Removal of thioctic acid from crude preparations of tetrahymena pyruvic oxidase by alumina treatment resulted in decreased acyl group formation, but did not affect the rate of oxidation in the presence of ferricyanide.
