Total bacteroid numbers (per plant) increased proportionally with nitrogenase, but glutamine synthetase activity decreased with increasing age of the root nodule. Glutamine synthetase was adenylylated throughout the period of increasing nitrogenase activity and during the period of constant nitrogenase activity.", }
