Preliminary experiments indicated that the C3 and C4 alcohols interfered with oxidative phosphorylation, which explains the low growth yield and the accumulation of ethanol in the growth medium. %U https://www.microbiologyresearch.org/content/journal/micro/10.1099/00221287-105-1-63
