Aims and scope

Journal of General Virology welcomes high-quality research and review articles that significantly advance the field of virology. We welcome submissions spanning human, animal, and plant virology, as well as the viruses of microorganisms, including bacteriophages.

The journal covers a broad range of topics, including virus replication, pathogenesis, virus-host interactions, host immune responses, viral epidemiology, and the use of viruses as agents of control. We particularly encourage submissions focused on antiviral agents and vaccines.

Studies on clinical aspects of virus infections, viral taxonomy and phylogenetics are welcomed, provided that they offer new insights into virus biology. Computational modelling submissions will be considered if accompanied by supporting laboratory or clinically based research validation.

ICTV Profiles

Journal of General Virology collaborates with the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) on the ICTV Virus Taxonomy Profiles, to support the global virology community. These concise, review-type articles are a valuable resource and provide overviews of the classification, structure and properties of individual virus orders, families and genera. All Profiles are Open Access, and are written by the ICTV study groups and invited by the ICTV Profiles Managing Editor.

The Profiles published so far can be found on our ICTV Virus Taxonomy Profiles collection page.
