Re-investigation of the strain 17 sequence showed that the plasmid clone used as the major sequencing substrate for the region was atypical in that other clones did not possess the 2 bp insertion. It was concluded that the coding sequence for ICP34.5 is intact in HSV-1 strain 17 and that the HSV-1 DNA sequence should be revised at this locus.", }
