Prior fixation of virus with OsO4 or glutaraldehyde and subsequent application of negative stain before drying minimized envelope disruption and virtually eliminated the occurrence of capsomere sheets and broken capsids. This simple procedure significantly improves electron microscopic evaluation of herpesvirus samples.", }
