Three New Serotypes of Arizona (19:23:31, 16:29:25, 15:26:31)
More LessThe biochemical and serological behavior of three new serotypes of Arizona are described. New type 16:29:25 was recovered from a snake (Naja naja), a rat (Rattus rattus), and a stool sample of a man suffering from gastroenteritis. Types 15:26:31 and 19:23:31 were obtained from snakes belonging to the species Oligodon arnensis and Eryx conicus, respectively.

Conservation of the Generic Name Lactobacillus Beijerinck with a New Type Species
More LessThe Judicial Commission of the International Committee on Nomenclature of Bacteria is requested to issue an Opinion conserving the generic name Lactobacillus Beijerinck with a new type species, Lactobacillus delbrueckii Beijerinck. The species previously regarded as the type, Lactobacillus caucasicus, cannot be recognized from descriptions, and no authentic cultures of this organism are extant. It is proposed that Lactobacillus caucasicus Beijerinck be placed on the list of rejected names. ATCC 9649 (= NCDO 213) is designated as the neotype strain of L. delbrueckii Beijerinck.

Status of the Names Aeromonas and Aerobacter liquefaciens Beijerinck and Designation of a Neotype Strain for Aeromonas hydrophila Stanier
More LessEvidence is given that the name Aerobacter liquefaciens Beijerinck 1900 is a nomen dubium, and the Judicial Commission of the International Committee on Systematic Bacteriology is requested to place the name in the list of nomina rejicienda. However, this species is the type species of the genus Aeromonas Kluyver and van Niel 1936. Because the generic name Aeromonas has come into general use for identifiable species named subsequently, the Judicial Commission is requested, in accordance with Rule 9c(3)(c) of the International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria (3) to designate Aeromonas hydrophila (Chester 1901) Stanier 1943 as the type species of Aeromonas and to designate Stanier as the author of this generic name. ATCC 7966 is here designated as the neotype strain of Aeromonas hydrophila.

Neotype Strain of Zoogloea ramigera Itzigsohn
More LessThe neotype strain of Zoogloea ramigera Itzigsohn is strain I-16-M (= ATCC 19623 = NCIB 10340 = NCTC 10482). However, this strain is not suitable as a neotype, primarily because of its inability to form the true zoogloeas cited by Itzigsohn in his original description of this organism. It is requested, therefore, that the Judicial Commission issue an Opinion rejecting strain I-16-M as the neotype of Z. ramigera and replacing it with strain 106 (= ATCC 19544).

Opinion 38: Conservation of the Generic Name Lactobacillus Beijerinck
More LessThe generic name Lactobacillus Beijerinck 1901 is conserved against Saccharobacillus van Laer 1892 and all earlier objective synonyms. The type species is L. delbrueckii Beijerinck with neotype strain ATCC 9649 = NCDO 213. Although L. delbrueckii was used by Beijerinck as a simplified version of the subspecific name “Lactobacillus fermentum var. delbrucki,” it shall be held to be validly published by Beijerinck as a species name. The name Lactobacillus caucasicus Beijerinck 1901 is placed in the list of rejected names, and L. caucasicus ceases to be the type species of Lactobacillus Beijerinck.

Opinion 39: Rejection of the Generic Name Gaffkya Trevisan
More LessThe generic name Gaffkya Trevisan 1885 was placed on the list of rejected names by the Judicial Commission of the International Committee on Nomenclature of Bacteria.

Opinion 40: Rejection of the Names Mima De Bord and Herellea De Bord and of the Specific Epithets polymorpha and vaginicola in Mima polymorpha De Bord and Herellea vaginicola De Bord, Respectively
More LessThe generic names Mima De Bord 1939, 1942 and Herellea De Bord 1942 were placed on the list of rejected names. The specific epithets polymorpha and vaginicola in the names Mima polymorpha De Bord 1939, 1942 and Herellea vaginicola De Bord 1942, respectively, were placed on the list of rejected epithets. The tribal name Mimeae De Bord 1939, 1942 therefore has no standing in nomenclature because it is based on a rejected generic name.

Opinion 41: Conservation of the Generic Name Moraxella Lwoff
More LessThe generic name Moraxella Lwoff 1939 is conserved over Diplobacillus McNab 1904 and over all earlier objective synonyms. The type species is Moraxella lacunata (Eyre) Lwoff 1939, and the neotype strain of this species is Morax 260 = ATCC 17967.

Opinion 42: Conservation of the Specific Epithet “phenylpyruvica” in the Name Moraxella phenylpyruvica Bøvre and Henriksen
More LessThe specific epithet “phenylpyruvica” in the name Moraxella phenylpyruvica Bøvre and Henriksen 1967 is conserved against the specific epithet “polymorpha” in the name of the earlier objective synonym Moraxella polymorpha Flamm 1957 and against the specific epithets in all other earlier objective synonyms. The neotype strain of Moraxella phenylpyruvica is 2863 (= ATCC 23333 = NCTC 10526).

Opinion 43: Conservation of the Specific Epithet “sphaeroides” in the Name Rhodopseudomonas sphaeroides van Niel
More LessThe specific epithet “sphaeroides” in the name Rhodopseudomonas sphaeroides van Niel 1944 is conserved against the specific epithet “minor” in the name of the earlier subjective synonym Rhodococcus minor and against the specific epithets in the names of all earlier objective synonyms of Rhodopseudomonas sphaeroides. The spelling of the specific epithet is corrected from “spheroides” to “sphaeroides.” The neotype strain of Rhodopseudomonas sphaeroides van Niel is van Niel's strain ATH 2.4.1 (= ATCC 17023).

Opinion 45: Rejection of the Name Leuconostoc citrovorum (Hammer) Hucker and Pederson
More LessThe name Leuconostoc citrovorum (Hammer 1920) Hucker and Pederson 1931, together with its objective synonyms, is regarded as a nomen dubium and is placed in the list of rejected names.

-
Opinion 44: Validation of the Generic Name Chloropseudomonas Czurda and Maresch 1937 and Designation of the Type Species
More LessThe generic name Chloropseudomonas Czurda and Maresch 1937 was not validly published because, when originally named and described, the genus did not contain a named species. The Judicial Commission validated the name Chloropseudomonas as proposed by Czurda and Maresch and designated Chloropseudomonas ethylica Shaposhnikov et al. 1960 to be the type species of the genus.

-
Opinion 46: Rejection of the Generic Name Aerobacter Beijerinck
More LessThe generic name Aerobacter Beijerinck 1900 is held to be a nomen ambiguum and is placed in the list of rejected generic names by the Judicial Commission.
