Abstract

is currently composed of two subspecies: subsp. and subsp. . The 16S rRNA gene similarity between type strains of these two subspecies is 99.03 %, whereas that between subsp. and is 100 %. To assess the taxonomic status of subsp. , genome sequencing was performed on the type strains of subsp. and . Digital DNA–DNA hybridization values between subsp. NBRC 15454 and subsp. ATCC 10970 and between subsp. NBRC 15454 and NBRC 13444 were 35.4 and 59.9 %, respectively, which are less than the thresholds for bacterial species delineation and indicate that subsp. is not , but an independent species different from and . In addition, phenotypic data also support that subsp. is distinct from . Therefore, subsp. should be reclassified as a novel species, for which we propose the name sp. nov. The type strain is NBRC 15454 (=ATCC 14827=DSM 41429=JCM 4541=JCM 4871=NRRL 2455=VKM Ac-605).
