sp. nov., isolated from the oral cavity of tufted capuchin Free

Abstract

A Gram-stain-positive, catalase-negative, coccus-shaped organism was isolated from the oral cavity of tufted capuchin (). Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis suggested classification of the organism within the genus . Strain M8 was related most closely to ATCC 35037 (96.17 % similarity) followed by CCUG 49690 (95.90 %) based on the 16S rRNA gene. Strain M8 was related most closely to CCUG 49690 (86.58 %) based on the RNA polymerase β subunit-encoding gene (), and to AZ_3a (81.26 %) followed by CCUG 49690 (80.45 %) based on the 60 kDa heat-shock protein gene (). The phylogenetic trees of 16S rRNA, and gene sequences showed that strain M8 was most closely related to . Based on phenotypic characterization as well as 16S rRNA gene and housekeeping gene ( and ) sequence data, a novel taxon, sp. nov. (type strain M8 = JCM 30719 = DSM 100101), is proposed.
