Abstract

A Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, non-flagellated, rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain Lxc1, was isolated from the surface of a marine red alga, sp., which was collected from the coastal regions in Jinjiang, Fujian Province, China. Colonies of the strain were orange–yellow, circular and smooth. The 16S rRNA gene of strain Lxc1 had maximum sequence similarity with E4-9a (97.1 %), followed by PAMC 27137, DJ3, AKS293 and AKS 432 (similarities < 96.4 %). Phylogenetic analysis showed strain Lxc1 formed a tight cluster with E4-9a and DJ3, but represented a novel lineage belonging to the genus . The predominant fatty acids were iso-C G (18.3 %), iso-C (16.7 %), iso-C 3-OH (10.6 %) and iso-C 3-OH (8.6 %). Menaquinone-6 (MK-6) was the only respiratory quinone present. The DNA G+C content of strain Lxc1 was 31.7 mol%. Combining the results above, it was ascertained that strain Lxc1 represented a novel species of the genus , for which the name sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is Lxc1 ( = MCCC 1A01567 = KCTC 42808).
