Using multigene sequencing, we demonstrated that five rickettsial isolates from Dermacentor silvarum, Dermacentor reticulatus, Dermacentor marginatus and Dermacentor nuttalli ticks were classified within this novel spotted fever rickettsia species. This rickettsia also exhibited a serotype distinct from previously described Rickettsia species.
