Abstract

A novel actinomycete, designated Z4, was isolated from soil in Yaan, Sichuan Province, south China. The taxonomic status of this strain was established using a polyphasic approach. The morphological and chemotaxonomic characteristics of the organism are typical of the members of the genus . Phylogenetic analysis based on the almost complete 16S rRNA gene sequence indicated that strain Z4 belonged to the genus , branching off next to ATCC 23194 (98.7 %), KACC 20253 (98.7 %) and ATCC 23905 (98.6 %). However, DNA–DNA hybridization studies and phenotypic differences between strain Z4 and closely related species of the genus suggested that strain Z4 represented a different genomic species. It is therefore proposed that Z4 ( = CGMCC 4.7035 = KCTC 29111) represents the type strain of a novel species of the genus , for which the name sp. nov. is proposed.
