Abstract

A Gram-negative, rod-shaped, pale-orange-pigmented bacterial strain with xylan-degrading activity designated YC7004 was isolated from a rotten-wood sample collected at Jinju, Korea, and its taxonomic position was investigated by using a polyphasic approach. The strain grew optimally on R2A medium at 30 °C and at pH 6. The major isoprenoid quinone was MK7 and major fatty acids were summed feature 3, iso-C, C, iso-C 3-OH, iso-Cω9 and Cω5. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 40.0 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the strain belongs to the genus in the family The most closely related species were (95.5 %), (94.6 % and (94.0 %). Based on the phylogenetic and chemotaxonomic data analyses, strain YC7004 represents a novel species of the genus with the proposed name of sp. nov. The type strain is YC7004 ( = KACC 16571 = NBRC 108856).
