Abstract

Two bacterial strains, 5420S-12 and 5420S-16, isolated from air samples, were characterized using a polyphasic approach. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that strain 5420S-12 was related phylogenetically to FaiI4 (97.4 % sequence similarity) and 25B (97.1 %) and that strain 5420S-16 was closely related to TFB (98.0 %) and 25B (97.2 %). The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 62.2 mol% for strain 5420S-12 and 61.5 mol% for strain 5420S-16. The major fatty acid was C 7. The results of DNA–DNA hybridization and the phenotypic data showed that strains 5420S-12 and 5420S-16 could be distinguished from phylogenetically related species and represent two novel species within the genus , for which the names sp. nov. (type strain 5420S-12 =KACC 12743 =NBRC 106136) and sp. nov. (type strain 5420S-16 =KACC 12744 =NBRC 106137) are proposed. Furthermore, the reclassification of as comb. nov. (type strain TFB =JCM 11936 =KCTC 12101 =IAM 15034 =ATCC BAA-817) is proposed and an emended description of the genus is provided.
