sp. nov., isolated from a brown algae reservoir Free

Abstract

A Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, non-flagellated, non-gliding and ovoid or rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain W-BA8, was isolated from a brown algae reservoir on the South Sea, South Korea, and subjected to a polyphasic taxonomic approach. Strain W-BA8 grew optimally at 25 °C, at pH 7.0–7.5 and in the presence of 1.0–2.0 % (w/v) NaCl. Neighbour-joining and maximum-parsimony phylogenetic trees based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain W-BA8 clustered with the type strains of species of the genus . Strain W-BA8 exhibited 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity values of 94.9–96.5 % to the type strains of species and of less than 95.8 % to the type strains of other recognized species. Strain W-BA8 contained MK-6 as the predominant menaquinone and iso-C, iso-C G, iso-C 3-OH and iso-C 3-OH as major fatty acids. The polar lipid profile of strain W-BA8 contained phosphatidylethanolamine, two unidentified lipids and one unidentified glycolipid as major components. The DNA G+C content of strain W-BA8 was 35 mol%. Differential phenotypic properties, together with phylogenetic distinctiveness, revealed that strain W-BA8 is separated from other species of the genus . On the basis of the data presented, strain W-BA8 is considered to represent a novel species of the genus , for which the name sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is W-BA8 ( = KCTC 42176 = CECT 8671).
